LIST PICK
C TURTLE 2001
London indie rock outfit C Turtle share noughties-inspired pop pleaser ‘2001’. ‘2001’ is the first taster of new music from the band since their debut Expensive Thrills released last year, and it’s a bundle of effervescent energy. Playfully carefree with a peppy melody, crunchy guitar feel and hooky lines, the track bears the nostalgia of an introduction to your favourite Saturday morning TV show - the one that stays with you years down the line. The B-side delivers a dramatic contrast, a slow-burn cover of The Magnetic Fields’ ‘When You’re Old And Lonely’ with a C Turtle twist of submerged lo-fi vocals and cloudy distortion. The polarity between the spirited ‘2001’ and melancholic ‘When You’re Old And Lonely’ is compelling, each reminiscing in its own unique way while showcasing the band’s ability to effortlessly explore different facets of a single experience. It’s a memorable, dynamic release from C Turtle, and we’re eager to see what they have in store this year. -Kayla Sandiford
